Fallout: New Vegas PC problems, please help?
So, today I went to Target and bought a new copy of Fallout: New Vegas for PC. I was really excited, because I loved Fallout 3. I installed it and also installed Steam, and I was ecstatic when the menu popped up and I selected "New Game". It lagged like MW2 on a Windows in 1998 (excuse the nerd expression). I googled and youtubed and yahooed and I even tweeted. All of the results said to download and use this d3d9 file, but it didn't work for me. Don't say I didn't do it right, because I know I did. I used winrar to put it in the main file folder for New Vegas, I relaunched it numerous times, I did everything correctly. I set the graphics and textures on the lowest settings, and still no results. The FPS sucks, and it's lagging INSANELY bad. I read on some forums that some patches had fixed it, but I have no clue where to get the patches or updates. Steam? Bethesda? Some random website online? I don't know. I really need help on this, guys. Thanks in advance for good answers.

There are many problems and solutions that can be found for this. XP 98, really isn’t the best Operating System for MW2, or Fallout New Vegas. You could buy windows vista, or windows 7. On the start screen of New Vegas, settings, advanced, and turn all these settings to the lowest. Or on the steam screen you can turn on or off the steam cloud, in New Vegas, properties. You might need to buy new RAM, or an external hard drive for memory purposes.

A lot of people experience lag with this game. It can be caused by multiple reasons.
You have to get the latest patch for this game, update directx, and update your video card driver.
You can update the game patch through steam or you can manually download it. There’s a patch available online released by Skidrow.

(sad face) your graphic card may not support this game… much like how I blew 50 bucks on fallout 3, and it keeps freezing and lagging because my graphic card cannot support it. It may also just be a screw up in the game. New Vegas is extremely laggy, even on the consoles, so it may be the game. Hope this helps. Though I thought the 2 had the same requirements.
